Below is a full transcript of the diary entries of operation staff (Abteilung Ia) of the German commander-in-chief in Denmark, "Befehlshaber der deutschen Truppen in Dänemark", The notes written by hand in an exercise booklet which on the front bears the words "Heft 1 Tagesbucheintragungen für den Tätigkeitsbericht des Abtl. Ia, begonnen 09/10/40 ". The notes cover the period 10 September 1940 to 26 May 1941.
This is the daily notes made by the German Commander in Chief staff about the day's activities as well as incoming and outgoing orders. The notes appear to have been intended to form the basis for the design of staff's activity reports, "Tätigkeitsbericht, Befehlshaber der deutschen Truppen in Dänemark Abt. Ia ", published every two months in the period 1940-43.
As noted, the notes are handwritten, therefore it has not always been possible to read all parts of the text with complete security. Illegible words are marked with: ..? ... Where the interpretation of a word is uncertain, this is marked with: (?).
The original document can be found in the National Archives: Private Archive no. 5533, Hermann von Hanneken.
