PERMANENT EXHIBITION
Enemy and neighbor
The Bunker Museum's modern exhibition building houses the exhibitions "Enemy and Neighbor" and "The War Machine".
The German occupation 1940-45 had an extreme impact on life in Hanstholm.
The peaceful fishing village of 800 inhabitants was transformed into the strongest German fortress in Denmark in just a few years, ultimately forcing the townspeople from their homes.
The exhibition "Enemy and Neighbor" focuses on the role of man on both the Danish and German sides and provides a unique opportunity to get close to the everyday life of war in a small town on the West Coast.
The exhibition tells about the life of the German soldiers in the fortress and the life of the civilian population in its shadow - and how occupier and occupied lived together. Everything is brought to life with words, speech, images and film.

PERMANENT EXHIBITION
The war machine
The exhibition "The War Machine" focuses on the machinery and technology of war.
In the exhibition, you can see a small selection of the original weapons that the West Coast fortresses were armed with.
Here you can see both the standard equipment of the German Wehrmacht, the "Schmeisser" submachine gun and the assault rifle, but also the many weapons that the Germans captured from their enemies and used themselves.
The larger exhibits include 2 cm Oerlikon and 2 cm Vierlingflak anti-aircraft guns, a 150 cm searchlight, German 3.7 cm Pak 36 and 7.5 cm Pak 40 anti-tank guns and finally the rare 5 cm M 19 machine mortar.
You can also see the propeller from a B-17 bomber and part of the tailplane from a Lockheed Hudson bomber, both of which were shot down by guns at Hanstholm.
